What is DUPR?
DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) is pickleball’s most accurate global rating system. It evaluates players based on match results to provide a real-time, reliable assessment of their skill level.
DUPR’s ageless, genderless rating system makes it easy for players to know their skill level, connect with others and find more opportunities to play with others at their level, wherever they are in the world. It provides pickleball with a foundational, universal language by rating every player - from beginners to pros - across a unified standard.
DUPR is the official pickleball rating of leagues, tournaments and clubs around the world, including US Open Pickleball Championships, United Pickleball Association (UPA), PPA, Major League Pickleball (MLP), Pickleball.com, Life Time and The Picklr.

How does it work?
Key things to know about the rating:
- All players regardless of age, gender or geographic location are evaluated across the same 2.000 - 8.000 rating scale.
- A player can have a singles and doubles DUPR, with all singles play (against all ages and genders) counting towards the singles rating and all doubles play (including mixed and gendered doubles) counting towards their doubles rating.
- DUPR takes into account match results from thousands of tournaments, leagues and club events.
- Every time a new result is submitted, it is instantly factored into your DUPR.
What the rating evaluates:
- Points Matter. Was this a tight match or a blowout? DUPR now evaluates the closeness of the match, so a score of 11-0 will have a bigger impact on your rating than a close match of 11-9 against that same opponent.
- Recency Matters. A match you played today will impact your rating more than a match you played six months ago.
- Total Match Count Matters. If you've played in a lot of matches, your rating will fluctuate less compared to a player with a lower match count.
- Every Match Matters (even against unrated players). Every match counts towards your rating, even if you are playing against someone who is unrated or new to DUPR.

How do I get a rating?
Getting a rating is free and easy. Just sign up on www.dupr.com or download the app. One match is all it takes to get on the road to a reliable rating. The more you play and the more results you share, the more reliable your rating will become.
Why is the US Open using it to evaluate players?
DUPR is the most accurate and reliable rating in pickleball. Adopting DUPR as the official and exclusive rating of the US Open reflects our efforts to continue offering a fair, open and transparent competition for players.
Will this change the lottery system or process to sign up?
No. The only additional requirement is that players have a DUPR account, which is free to create.
How will this impact the competition?
Using DUPR gives us the ability to objectively evaluate all players across the same standard and seed players according to their level. This will provide players with an even better competitive experience.
How does DUPR help to prevent sandbagging?
Sandbagging, or deliberately playing below one’s actual ability, is unfortunately a problem that exists across many sports, including pickleball. Sandbagging in pickleball will occur when a player purposefully plays below their true level so they have a chance to play in a future event against players they believe they can beat. Sandbagging has no place in the US Open and DUPR’s community, and DUPR’s system actively works to identify and flag sandbagging to event organizers and tournament directors.
